How to Cite ONLINE NEWSPAPERS

MLA Newspaper Article Citation

  • Examples are not double-spaced, but your Works Cited list should be double-spaced
  • Examples do not show indented lines after the first line, but yours should be indented.

Last Name, First Name Middle name or initial. "Article Title." Newspaper title, date of publication, pages. Name of Database. Web. Date of access.

Examples:

How to Cite PRINT NEWSPAPERS

Author last name, first name. "Article title." Newspaper Title [City name, State], publication date, page number.

Example:

Jargon, Julie. "Chipotle Warns of Sales Hit." The Wall Street Journal, 5 Dec 2015, p. B5.

Note: Well known, national papers (e.g. New York Times, USA Today) do not require a city name and state after the title. Lesser known, regional, and local papers should include the city name and state.
