Info Desk Basic Skills List

This week, most of you will have increased hours at Information Desk. That means you will be helping library users directly. You should be familiar with basic library services listed below. I’m sure some of you already comfortable with these services but If you don’t know how to do them, let your supervisor know. Ask him or her to show you.  Shadow the library staff Donna/Tuya/Ben/Al/Misa/Malik when they are helping library users. Read Desk Basics and feel free to practice on your own when you're at Information Desk.

  • Check-out and check-in library materials
  • Check-out and check-in library reserve materials
  • Help with directional questions like where is Learning Center or water fountain
  • Help with locating books, DVDs in the library and using the library online catalog, Primo
  • Help with scanning documents and emailing them
  • Help with photocopying
  • Help with sending faxes
  • Entering cash transactions in Aleph  
  • Answer Information Desk phone and route calls to the correct person
  • Checking library classroom schedules
  • Checking Ramos 212 booking
  • Finding Library building open hours
  • Most importantly how to route questions & issues to which library staff! The Reference Referral chart is your friend.
